Karla is the Director of Community Outreach for the Center of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. She oversees the development and facilitation of professional enrichment opportunities and community education events. Karla also serves as a Bullying Prevention Consultant for the Pennsylvania Department of Education. In this role, she staffs the statewide Bullying Prevention Consultation Line which offers support and resources to students, families, and schools experiencing chronic and ongoing bullying issues. Karla is a Licensed Social Worker and holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Shannon Nicoloff
Shannon is a Private Practice Psychologist with an office inside Laurel Pediatric Associates in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She works with children, adolescents and their families. She has a background in health and wellness, education and has worked with children and adolescents since 1996 with her first job as an activities coordinator for the students at the Perpich Center for Art Education in Minnesota followed up by a nutrition education instructor for the University of Minnesota and gained a lot of clinical experience as a therapist at the Domestic Abuse Project and within the Universities Student Counseling Center in Minneapolis Minnesota. She earned her doctorate in 2009 from the APA Accredited University of St. Thomas School of Professional Psychology. She has lived and worked as a psychologist in Johnstown Pennsylvania since the fall of 2007 while initially practicing under the license of Dr. Mary Berge. In December 2013 Dr. Nicoloff became an official licensed psychologist within Pennsylvania and in the spring of 2014 she began the collaboration with Laurel Pediatric Associates. Within the collaborative model of private practice inside a medical clinic Dr. Nicoloff does a wide variety of clinical work. Individual, group and family therapy along with psychological assessment to clarify a diagnosis, psychological evaluations to determine the if the child / adolescent would benefit more from a greater amount of services than individual therapy. Anxiety disorders, depression, school refusal, chronic physical illness, anger and oppositional defiant disorder along with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are among the population within her private practice.
There are some children and adolescents that seek services due to academic underachievement, grief and loss, peer / sibling conflict, blended family, high conflict divorce, OCD, negative peer influence and/or PTSD.
