The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on children and families. It has disrupted routines, closed (then opened, then closed again) schools, and altered childcare options and recreational activities. For some families, students are faced with a sharp increase in anxiety, tension, or general fear. Understanding the way families experience these changes is important and finding the “new normal” can be challenging for schools and families. This School Health Spotlight will discuss how to create supportive school environments for students and help viewers identify students and families in their building most affected by COVID-19.
