The Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention recently completed a school visit in conjunction with the Harlem Globetrotters. Both organizations visited St. Benedict’s grade school in Johnstown, PA on March 5 to speak on the topic of bullying prevention.
Shiryl Barto, M. Ed., spoke to the group of students and teachers about what can be done if they notice someone being bullied. “The students were really receptive,” says Barto. “You could tell the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program that they have in place is creating a positive environment for these children.”
Harlem Globetrotter Wun “The Shot” Versher then took the floor to interact with the children and discuss bullying prevention as well. This year, the Harlem Globetrotters team is dedicated to educating youth on the topic through the players’ interactive school visits.
